In latter part of 2000, corporate management of the fertilizer company announced the Stockton plant would be consolidating locations with their operations in Ohio. This was also about the time the Port of Stockton was going through some major changes of growing and expanding their operations onto Rough and Ready Island (formerly the Rough & Ready Island Navy Supply Depot). Not wanting to leave the Stockton area, David saw an opportunity to create a solution that would keep him and his family in California while addressing the lack of quality warehousing and railcar transloading facilities nearby. Proud to be one of the first tenants of the newly acquired warehousing complex at the Port of Stockton, David started the business with just 20,000 s/f warehouse space, one employee and one forklift. The first customer at M.T. Railcars had a need to transfer bulk bags from railcars into storage and then transloaded into bulk trucks and/or vans. M.T. Railcars was able to meet that customer’s needs then and is still meeting that same customer’s needs today – 20 plus years later. Due to their consistent quality service and stellar reputation, M.T. Railcars has seen considerable growth since that first day in 2000. The company now occupies seven adjacent 40,000 s/f warehouses at the Port of Stockton complex. M.T. Railcars continues to work with multiple commodities including raw materials and finished goods. Products are shipped in and out via containers, bulk trucks, dry vans, flatbeds, railcars and air transport. Although their customer base and warehouse space has increased substantially, each and every customer at M.T. Railcars is still treated as if they are the one and only customer.
